I don't get to make many baby shower cookies.  The last ones I made were for my sister, when my niece was on the way, almost two years ago.  My husband's cousin is having her first child and the shower is today.  I don't get to attend many smaller family functions since I live so far away.  I'm excited to be back in town and able to see his side of the family and attend the shower.

The design for the cookies came from the super cute shower invitations.  It must have been the cookie gods putting everything in place.  I had just ordered the farm animal cookie cutters and a few days later the shower invitation arrived in the mail.  Here is a picture of the invitation so everyone can see where my inspiration came from.

For all of the animals I used black dragees decoration balls for the eyes.  I started with the lamb since he seemed the most difficult of all the animals.  The lamb cookie cutter can be found here.  I took a food coloring marker to draw where the white fur would be.  I filled in the grey areas first because I wanted to be able to pipe the white on top of the grey.  On the ears, I piped a small black oblong oval while the grey icing was still wet.  I also dropped the eyes on the wet grey icing.  Once all the grey icing was dry, I filled in the white fur parts.  Then I added the nose.  I not very happy with how the noses turned out.  I think they look like big mouths.  I feel it's because the nose is not centered with the eyes.  Now I know for next time.

For the cow I used this cutter.  I piped and flooded the body with white icing.  Immediately following, I used black icing to create a few cow spots.  I added the eyes and bit of black on the hooves.  I allowed everything to dry and finished up by adding black hair and horns and adding a pink snoot.

For the chick, I used this cookie cutter.  I started by drawing in the tummy section with a food coloring marker.  I then piped and flooded that section with a light yellow icing.  I  followed that by piping and flooding the body with a darker yellow.  I allowed that to dry and then piped and flooded the head.  Again dropping the eye on the wet icing.  The finishing touches where adding the orange beak and feet.

The piglet was the easiest of all the animals.  This is the cookie cutter I used. I piped and flooded his whole body pink, adding the eyes again.  Once the body was dry, I added the darker pink ears and snoot.

For the barns, I decorated them just as did here.  I used this barn cookie cutter.  The only difference this time is I did a "x" window at the top to follow the invitation design. 

For the plaque cookie, I used this cookie cutter.  I piped and flooded it with white icing and allowed that to dry over night.  The next day I used this stencil to create the gingham plaid.  I used red Wilton's Color Mist to achieve the look.
