December Daily - Fair Isle Sweatrers

One thing that I miss about not living in a cold winter climate, is not being able to wear cozy winter sweaters.  We only have a few days each winter that are deemed sweater weather.  I love fair isle pattern.  When I got my first job as a teenage, one of the first things I purchased was a purple fair isle sweater from The Gap.  I hung on to that sweater for a long time.  I have since let it go to make room for newer fair isle sweaters.  I made these ugly Christmas sweaters a few years back, which were a big hit.  I hope these sweaters a just as popular.

This is the sweater cookie cutter that I used.  Here is another great sweater cutter.  The fun part about making these cookies is that you can use any color combination you like.  I made a few with traditional Christmas colors and a few non-traditional.  I used this stencil to achieve the fair isle pattern.  Soon as I saw this stencil, I knew I had to own it and makes these sweater cookies.  Start by piping and flooding the entire sweater in whatever color you choose, allowing it to dry completely.  I airbrushed two of cookies with the stencil and I used royal icing on the other two.  I'm not the best at the royal icing technique (I need more practice), but I like the way it looks more.  Place the stencil on top of the cookies.  Spread a thin layer of very thick royal over the stencil.  When you remove the stencil, the pattern will be left on the cookie.  Here is a really good video showing the technique.

Bust out your favorite Christmas sweater this weekend and wear it around!
