I totally wish that I was ten years old again.  I would want to be friends with Shea so I could come to her awesome birthday parties each year.  Last year I made these cookies for her fashion-show themed party.  This year, boardwalk was the theme and I was excited to make this set of cookies.  The color scheme was given to me, which made things easy.  Boardwalk food was a major part of this set of cookies.

For the popcorn, I used a cupcake cookie cutter similar to this.  While still unbaked, I cut off a portion of the side to create a more box-like shape.  I drew in the striped sections with a food coloring marker first and then piped over them.  I filled in the red section first, allowed it to dry, and then filled in the white section.  I piped and flooded the top portion with dark yellow icing.  Once the yellow had dried, I used piping consistency yellow icing to create the popcorn kernels.  Then after the kernels had dried, I piped light yellow in between the kernels to add some dimension.  For the cotton candy, I used my cotton candy cutter.  It was given to me, so I'm not sure where it's from.  There are tons of cotton candy cookie cutters out there if you Google it.  I started off by piping and flooding the pink section.  Once that had dried, I filled in the handle with white icing.  Then I piped some pink swirls on.  Sno-cones were not part of the original request, but I felt they're totally boardwalk food, so I added them into this set.

I used this ice cream cone cookie cutter.  Again I picked mine up at a garage sale but Esty or Ebay might be the best bet to find one.  I started by piping and flooding the cone portion with white icing.  Once that was dry, I moved on to the ice part.  I flooded the section with Sno-cone colored icing.  While the icing was wet, I sprinkled the cookies with coarse sanding sugar.  This gives the cookies that "Sno-cone" look.  Pushcarts was another request for this set.  I do not have a pushcart cookie cutter.  I took a few common cutters and drew out what I wanted.  I used an umbrella, rectangle, and circle.

I cut out my drawing and hand cut the cookies.  I don't really have an special decorating trick.  I just followed my drawing using the color scheme provided to me.  Piping and flooding one section, allowing it to dry, and then moving on to the next.  To create the tickets I used the same rectangle I used for the pushcarts and notched out the corners.  I used a tiny circle cutter to create the notches.  I piped and flooded and once dry I used this font as reference for the word "ticket".  For the taffy, I used a cookie cutter like this.  For most of the taffy cookies, I piped one color and while it was still wet and added another on top.  Once all the icing was dry, I added some pearl lust dust to create the paper look.

For the boardwalk sign, I found this shape for my Silhouette.  I used a rectangle cookie cutter, piped and flooded it white.  I cut the shape out with my Silhouette and traced it on to the dried cookie.  Then I filled in the arrows with different color icings.  Once those were dry, I used the picture as reference and piped the words on the signs.  I added "Shea's 10th Birthday" to a few of the arrows.

I had an absolute blast making these cookies!  I hope Shea had another fabulous birthday, and I can't wait for next year's theme.
