Champagne Brunch

Yesterday I attended my good friend Katie's bridal shower.  We've known each other since kindergarten.  I surprised her by flying to Minnesota from Arizona.  Katie was my maid of honor and now I'm her matron of honor.  The shower ended up being different colors than the color scheme I used for the cookies.  Regardless, it was a wonderful shower filled with great people and delicious food.  I was happy we were able to celebrate another mile stone in our lives together.

The design for the cookies came directly from the invitations, which were in the shape of a champagne bottle and printed in red, black, and white.  The champagne bottle cookie cutter is from here.  I didn't want to make the bottles green because I felt it might look too Christmas-like with green bottles and red daisies.  My inspiration for the bottles came from here.  I liked how the bottle was not green, but it was gold, and a monogram on the label.  I started out by piping and flooding the bottle with light goldish-brown icing.  Once dried, I added yellow icing for the upper part of the bottle that would become gold.  Once the yellow had dried, I mixed CK super gold luster dust with some alcohol and painted it over the yellow icing.  After the fist layer of gold had dried, I add the lines for the cork detail.  Then I added another layer of gold.  I piped white icing one for the label and flooded it.  After it was dry, I took a square paint brush and stippled on some gold and black food coloring paint to create texture on the champagne label.  The final touches were adding the "K" to the label and adding the highlight line on the right side of the bottle.

For the champagne glass cookies, I used a short champagne/wine glass that I have.  I wanted the cookies to be a taller flute, so when I cut the cookie, I used a knife to extend the top of the cookie.  The cookie came out in two pieces.  I put them together, baked them, and they came out just as I wanted.  I outlined the glass in white icing and flooded the stem of the glass.  Once the white was dry, I used the same goldish-brown I used for the champagne bottles to fill in.  While the icing was still wet, I sprinkled gold sanding sugar on the icing to create the champagne look.  I used gold dragees to create the bubbles.  The final touch was adding the swirl to the stem with the icing.

For the daisy cookies, I used a cookie cutter similar to this. To create a more realistic look, I followed Sweet Ambs tutorial here.  I had to make a few modifications as I used a daisy cookie and she used a round cookie.

The cookies were a huge hit at the shower.  Here are some photo highlights of the shower.

Magic brought the couple together.
