Hola Chica
I love making Chica the Chicken cookies and she is one of my most requested cookies. I feel I could make her in my sleep now. I have had some ups and downs with her though. To make this batch a bit easier, I had a custom cookie cutter made. I ordered my cookie cutter from here. I've picked up a few cookie cutters from here. She has really cute designs that I don't see from other 3D printer cookie cutter makers. I also order the cutter from Home Print 3D because she is local and I love supporting local business. All of the previous times I made Chica, I hand cut the cookies, so having a cookie cutter this time made it a breeze.
I did not make the eyes ahead time like have in the past, I just opted to pipe them on in stages. I piped the black outline of the eye first. Once dry, I filled that in with white icing. The key is to get the right consistency of icing. You want it to be thick enough to add volume but still dry quickly. The white of the eyes is where I've had horrible problems with bleeding before, so I always allow for more drying time. Then I add the black. While the black is still wet, I add the next white dot. For some unknown reason this part never seems to bleed, only the larger white area does.
Since the eyes didn't cause any problems this time, I moved onto the beak. I didn't reference back to my previous Chica photos, so this time I did make the beak more orange than yellow. I think it looks good in either color. I'm so happy another batch of Chica's made it to another birthday.
