Unicorn Project- Swedish Unicorns
Many of the designs that I came up with for this unicorn project are based off the many unicorn items I own. I called these Swedish unicorns because they are inspired by a small unicorn plush toy that I picked up at IKEA. From the very first time I visited IKEA in 2004, I rounded the corner into the children’s section and there were huge bins of small plush toys. I picked out one I liked and purchased it. The collection started. Every time I visited IKEA, I would pick one up. When they had this unicorn, I may have purchased more than one. I was just at IKEA last week and it seem they are no longer making the little toys - which made me a bit sad.
The cookie cutter I used to make these is probably the hardest to find of all the unicorn cookie cutters I have (it's an old Wilton cutter). I was not able to find any for sale, but this is what it looks like. I started off piping and flooding the cookie with blue icing. I used Wilton's cornflower blue food coloring to achieve the color. Once the icing was dry, I used some pearl lust dust to give the unicorns a little sparkle. Then I used thicker pink icing to pipe on the tail, mane, and horn. The hooves were the last thing I filled in with a little bit thinner icing.
