Gender Reveal
It's been a busy couple of weeks for me! I made these cookies a few weeks ago but haven't had a chance to write about them. Gender reveal parties are HUGE and everyday I see a new idea for these parties on Pinterest. The colors, patterns, and ties and tutus all came for the invitations. I showed how I made similar bunting cookies on this previous post.
I used the tie from this set. I simply piped and flooded the cookie blue. Once dry, I used pearl blue sheen to airbrush on the patterns. Then I outlined the cookie.
I didn't have tutu cookie cutter, so this is how I made a tutu. I took a scalloped circle and cut the top off.
Then from the flat edge I made two diagonal cuts to create the sides of the tutu.
When I started out making cookies, I purchased a set of decorating tips thinking I would use them all, but I soon realized I just use one or two. This is my first time using this tip to make ruffles.
These are the items you will need to make a tutu cookie.
White pearl nonpareils
#2 tip
Very thick icing in the color you wish to make tutu and a small amount of piping.

Tutu shaped cookie
#104 tip
I started by piping the sides of the tutu and creating a waistband.
I filled in the waistband with a small amount of flood icing.
To the waistband, I added a some pearl nonpareils. I practiced a few times before moving to the cookie. I turned the cookie upside down to pipe it (waistband closest to me and scalloped edge further away). It's ok if you don't pipe it perfectly, it will be covered by the next layer of ruffles.
The icing is thick so it will not take long before you can pipe the next layer. I allowed the first layer of ruffles to set for a minute or two before piping the next.
Keep moving up the cookies with rows of ruffles. When the space between the ruffles and waistband is too small for another row, fill it in with some flood icing.
