This last weekend I had the pleasure of making birthday Madeline's second birthday. Last year I made owl cookies for her first birthday. The color scheme stayed the same, which was fine with me I LOVE this color combination. I had fun coming up with different designs for the number "2"s. I made a simple one with plain icing and the wet-on-wet polka dots. One of the more elaborate style I used was the quilted design. I really like how the stenciled ones turned out with the "two" on them. I made my own stencil and I used acetate to make it. I followed this tutorial on how to make a stencil and it worked out really well. I used this set of Helvetica cookie cutters for Madeline's name, so I used the same typeface to make my stencil.
Last week I also made some cookies for Veteran's Day. I made some camouflage cookies with royal icing last year and wanted to simplify it this year, so I used this stencil. I made the Veteran's Day cookies for the bakery I work with. The owner thought the cookies were for hunters thanking turkeys for being Thanksgiving dinner. I guess everyone is thankful for something.
