Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. Getting dressed up, carving pumpkins and handing out candy; I just love it all. Halloween is just right around the corner. I seems like just yesterday I was posting Fourth of July cookies. Speaking of Fourth of July cookies, that's were the inspiration for these pumpkins came from. I made these similar chevron flags in July and felt the design would work well on pumpkins. Here are the things you will need to make these cookies.
- Baked and cooled pumpkin cookies
- Food coloring marker
- Chevron template
- Black, orange, and purple " 15 second" icing
- Disco dust
This design can be applied to any pumpkin shape you have. Start by taking the chevron template and placing it in the center of the pumpkin. Take the food coloring marker and trace the template. My template came from the flag design I purchased for my Silhouette. However, you can find many chevron templates online if you need one. To help me keep things straight, I labeled each line with the letter representing which color I would fill it with.
Pipe over the lines you traced with one of the icing colors (shown below). I did it with purple and orange. I immediately filled in the lines with the same color I piped. If that color was getting disco dust, I did that while the icing was still wet. Once the first icing color has dried, I came back and filled in the next color. Make sure the icing that is not getting the disco dust is completely dry, otherwise the disco dust will end up in both colors. Sanding sugar can easily be used as an alternative to the disco dust.
Have fun trying out this fun Halloween design on some pumpkin cookies.
