I've notice in the last few years that crows have become a trending Halloween decoration; I see them all over Pinterest. I had an idea in my head of a crow in front of a broken window. I thought of the combination of the black crow against a cracked background would look cool.
I found this design and shape for my Silhouette. I cut the shape out on kraft paper and hand-cut the cookies. To achieve the cracked look, I followed this tutorial from Sweetambs. I iced the cookie with ivory icing and allowed it to dry overnight. The next day I took my scribe tool and scored the icing. This is what my cookie looked like once I finished the scoring (pictured to the right). Then I took mushroom colored petal dust and brushed it into the cracks with a paintbrush. Any dark colored petal dust will do the trick for this technique. My icing was too porous so my petal dust didn't really color the cracks. It mostly recolored the icing, but I was happy with the look.
My next step was to trace the crow cut-out onto the cookie with a black food coloring marker. I piped over my tracing with black icing.
