Heading to Target for new school supplies was one of my favorite times of year when I was younger. I loved getting new notebooks and pens, and I always wanted the biggest box of crayons. If you were a girl in middle school during the late 80's to early 90's, you know the brand Lisa Frank. I had a Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper and folders. I loved the rainbow and neon colors used in the images of polar bears, puppies and of course, unicorns. The Lisa Frank Trapper Keeper is on Ebay and it's selling for $175.00. Can you believe that? If I knew it would be worth that much, I would have taken better care of it.
This image was the inspiration for these unicorns. I used the full body unicorn cutter from this set. First, I started by piping and flooding the unicorn white. I left the horn and tail sections un-iced. When the icing was completely dry, I used purple food coloring to paint around the outer edge of the unicorn. I piped pink icing on the hooves and for the mouth. I used all the brightly colored icing left over from yesterday's cookies and I used a leaf tip to pipe on the mane. I added a small white highlight to each section of the mane I piped. Next, I made the horn and tail rainbow striped. I drew the outline of the eye and eyelashes with a purple food coloring marker, and added a touch of yellow, green, and purple icing to make the eye just like the inspiration.
