One of my favorite things to do when I lived in Minnesota was to head out to Pine Tree Apple Orchard in June when they have strawberry picking. It's so fun to get out there on your hands and knees, working up and down the rows filling your box full of plump, red strawberries. It's one of the things I miss about Minnesota. I have a few strawberry plants growing on my patio, but I only get teeny-tiny ones.
I used two different strawberry cutters to make these cookies. For the strawberry in the basket, I used this one. For the other strawberry, this one is very similar. I believe mine came in a set. For the basket, I hand-cut the basket and added three strawberries to it. I have a picture above of what the cookie looked like before baking. Once the cookie was baked, I took a food coloring marker and drew on the sections that I wanted to be dark blue. I thinly iced the three sections at the bottom with dark blue icing and an offset spatula. Then I came back and piped and flooded the whole basket light blue. When the basket was dry, I added the upper dark blue section. For the berries in the basket, I iced the two outer berries first, then the middle one following the lines the cookie cutter imprinted.
For the strawberries, I piped and flooded them with red icing. While the icing was still wet, I used yellow icing to add small dots. When the red was dry, I came back and added the green leaves.
