Who is excited for the new Vikings episode tonight? I'm so pumped! I will admit that I've haven't been a Vikings fan since the beginning. Over the summer, some friends told us about the show and that we should watch it. I watched the first episode and was hooked. I proceeded to binge watch all four seasons in the span a few days in June. Then I was asked to make cookies for the same friends who recommended the show. The internet said the second half of Season 4 was going to start in July, so I waited to post the cookies. Don't believe everything you read on the internet, right? Well the day has finally arrived five months overdue.
If you google "Viking cookies" you will two things, either an animated looking Viking or the football team Vikings. I knew right away that I wanted to make realistic looking cookies. Immediately I thought of the Santa cookies I made last Christmas with the realistic faces.
I combined the horns of a longhorn skull cutter and a Santa cutter. The Santa cutter is from a past Meri Meri christmas set show here. I would check Ebay or Amazon to see if you can find a set. This Santa cutter worked perfectly because it had a large beard and face area and the hat could easily be turned into a helmet. I kept the pom pom on a few of the helmets, but cut it off others. I personally like the helmets without the pom pom. The longhorn skull cutter can be found here. This achieved the stereotypical Viking helmet with the horns. In the show on the History channel, the Vikings only use horns to drink ales.
For the Viking faces, I used a paint brush. On the skin I let the icing dry for a while and then I used the scribe tool to cut gashes in the skin to show some battle scars. I Googled makeup tutorials on how to make bruises look real and then applied those techniques to painting the bruises and scars. I splattered red food coloring on the faces for proof of a bloody war.
I hope you guys enjoy the show as much as I do. I found some Meade in California earlier this year called "Ragnar" and I'll be enjoying copious amounts during the show.
