At this time of year, we all give thanks for all the blessings that we have in our lives. Brush Calligraphy is big right now and I wanted to incorporate it into this wreath design. At first you might think that making a wreath like this would be overwhelming, but it's really easy.
Here is what you will need to make these wreath cookies.
- Royal icing in grey or color of your liking. Make sure that it's between 10-12 second icing.
- Iced cookie that is completely dry.
- Scribe tool.
Start out by piping a circle on your cookie. If you want it to perfectly circular, you can trace a circular object with a food coloring marker. I just free-handed it.
After you have piped your circle, start piping evenly spaced small dots. Pipe between 5-7 dots, or what you feel comfortable working with. You don't want to pipe too many or the dots will dry before you can turn them into leaves.
Immediately take your scribe tool and pull it through the dot to create a leaf shape. Then pipe some more dots. Keep turning the cookie so the leaves gradually start flaring out in different directions.
Keep repeating this process around the circle.
Once you have completed the outer leaves, move to the inside. I've found making the outer leaves first makes the placement of the inner ones easier.
Pipe dots on the inside of the circle lining them up with the outer leaves. Repeat the same process as on the outside. When completed, you will have a wreath that looks like the one below. You can add berries, flowers, or any other accents you would like. I used a paint brush to paint on the brush lettering "Give Thanks"
