Happy Birthday to my niece! This year was her golden birthday. She requested unicorns and flamingos this year. These are two of my favorite cookies to make. I was shipping the cookies back to Minnesota for her birthday so I had be creative with the flamingo cookies. Flamingos are not a shipping friendly cookie. Last year I purchased this stencil and knew this would be the perfect opportunity to utilize it. I started with this plaque cutter. I airbrushed the striped with gold. I combined Tru Color gold and Amerimist gold. I mix the Tru Color (two parts alcohol to one part Tru Color) in a small dish and used an eye dropper to add it to my airbrush machine. Then I added a few drops of the Amerimist. The combination of the two golds produces a great gold color. I used Wiltons rose food coloring to make the pink icing for the flamingos. The flamingo stencil has two different size flamingos, I used the larger flamingo on the striped plaque. I used the the smaller flamingo stencil on the fours. It was tedious airbrushing the smaller flamingos because I could only airbrush one at a time. I used a food coloring pen to make small dots on the fours to mark where I wanted to place the flamingos.
The unicorn heads and rainbows are from Sweet Sugarbelle. The larger unicorn cutter can be found here. The cutter was designed by Miss Doughmestic and she has a a video showing how to decorate the unicorn. Before Christmas, my younger sister was babysitting my niece and they decorated Christmas cookies together. My sister texted me a photo of my niece covering a cookie with a TON of sprinkles. I said to myself I have to make her some sprinkle covered cookies for her birthday. To cover the number fours I used candy confetti sprinkles. The sprinkles have chewing flavored candies that taste so good. There are cherry, blue raspberry, and watermelon flavors just to name a few. I went through picking out each color and trying to guess what flavor it was before eating it! There are a ton of color varieties to choose from. The name of this sprinkle blend is "Unicorn". You can pick up a bag of these yummy sprinkles here.
