I first thought this would make a great cookie when I saw them in Martha Stewart magazine a few years back. These are fun cookies to make because you can put any subject matter in the snow globe. I think these would be really cute for Valentine's Day.
I used this mason jar cookie cutter. You can purchase it in numerous sizes (mine is 4.5 inches). I started by piping and flooding the jar section blue. I allowed that to dry overnight. The next day I piped and flooded the lid gray. I used a deer stencil to draw the deers with a food coloring marker. Then I took brown icing and piped and flooded over the marker. On the smaller deer, I added a few white dots when the brown icing was still wet. I allowed the deers to dry for a few hours. Then I added in the snow, and covered it with white sanding sugar. Make sure the deers are completely dry otherwise the sanding sugar will stick to them too. The final detail was adding a few gray lines to the lid.
