Welcome Baby Brynn! Some dear friends had a baby girl in September. The baby shower for Brynn was in August and Sadly I missed it. I was so bummed I was unable to make cookies for the baby shower. Mommy is from California so I wanted to incorporate California into the theme of the cookies. When I think of California, I get a bohemian vibe. The color pallet was built off the baby's nursery color of coral.
Poppies are the state flower of California. To make the poppies I used a sand dollar cutter. I followed this tutorial to make the flowers. The only thing I did differently was use a dark grey for the flower center. Black was too harsh with this softer color pallet.
For the monogrammed plaques, I used this cutter. I used the wood plank stencil from StencilBelle to create the background. Ivory icing was used and I painted it with a combination of ivory and brown. The roses and letter "B" were royal icing transfers I made ahead of time. I piped the leaves with Wilton 352 tip.
The kept the California cookies pretty simple. I piped and flooded the cookies with ivory icing. Then I used gold lust pearl dust mixed with alcohol to create the splatter effect. The arrow cutter can be purchased here. To create Brynn's name, I used a water brush. I wrote her name with water on the dried cookie. Then I piped over it with a yellow icing. I could have used a food coloring marker, but I hate when I don't pipe perfectly and the marked lines can be seen. This way if I didn't pipe perfectly the water just evaporated. Once the name was dry I painted over it with the gold lust dust.
