Earth Day

Happy Earth Day everyone!  Earth Day is not a big cookie holiday by any means.  I like making cookies for the more obscure holidays because there is less pressure to make new, creative cookies.  I first made Earth Day cookies a few years back (check them out here).  Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970 and it started the social justice holidays and awareness months.

When I was a kid, between eight and twelve-years-old, I loved anything that was related to saving the Earth.  I had countless books about being a good steward of the Earth.  I made little posters and hung them around my neighborhood to make everyone aware of helping the Earth.  In Girl Scouts, I wanted to earn every badge to do with the environment.  I was even a member of KSE (Kids for Saving Earth).  I pretty much LOVED the Earth.

To make these cookies, I mostly used simple, shape cookies cutters like a circle, triangle, and rectangle.  The tree and owl cookie cutters are from the same place.  My go-to cookie cutter shop is Truly Mad Plastics.  For the Earths, I used the drawing I made for the Earth Day cookies I linked earlier.  I just didn't put the white banner on this time.  For the recycle symbol and whale tail, I found some free icons over here and used that as my template for piping the designs.  I wanted the owl to have a similar feel to Woodsy Owl, but not looking exactly like him.
