Happy New Year! I can't believe we're beginning another new year. I made more cookies last year than any other year. I hope this year I can make even more.
The last time I made New Years cookies they looked like this. For 2015, I wanted to make simple/ graphic cookies with just numbers on them. I knew that I wanted to use black and gold as my color scheme - I think that's the quintessential New Years color scheme. I used my favorite little plaque cookie cutter. I piped and flooded the cookies black and allowed them to dry completely. I went back and forth between the dot background or using a chevron background. I airbrushed on the background with this stencil. I drew the numbers on with food coloring marker and then piped over them with white icing. When the white icing was dry, I painted it with the gold air brush sheen. To create the texture on the numbers I tried something new - an experiment. I took Zing gold embossing powder and embossed the numbers. I used it just like you would for stamping or scrap-booking with a heat gun. Even though the white icing was dry, holding the heat gun so close to emboss caused the icing to bubble up. It was interesting trying something new, but I don't know if I would do it again. (Note: These cookies were NOT consumed. Some embossing powders are non-toxic, but I don't think it's safe to consume. I would NEVER use this technique on cookies people would consume.)
