With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I'm going to be sharing a few of my Valentine cookies this week. The inspiration for these cookies came from here. I saw these cookies on Pinterest and knew that I had to make them. They combine three of my favorite things - hearts, monograms, and script writing. These cookies are very reminiscent of the anniversary cookies I made in August.
These cookies a pretty easy to make. You really only need two icing colors, but any color combination can be used. In the tutorial from Pinterest, they didn't outline the cookies. I thought it defined the heart shape more and added contrast, so I added it. I didn't use a letter stencil on these cookies. I hand-drew the letters and piped over them, to kept it simple. If I was going to be making a ton of these cookies, I would use a stencil for uniformity.
Make sure the base layer is completely dry. I allowed mine to dry for 24 hours and still had issues. On the "K" cookie, my food coloring marker broke through the icing a few times, even though I was writing lightly. I tried to place the "K" over them but I couldn't cover them all up. On the left side of the heart you can see a few.
