Unicorn Project - Traditional and Helicopters

So you are probably asking what do unicorns and helicopters have to do with each other?  Well, nothing really.  I just had a request come in for helicopters for a baby shower and didn't want to write a separate post for them.

Most of the time when you see a unicorn, it is all white.  I think of this as the quintessential unicorn.  The unicorn that I createdd today is pretty simple.  The inspiration for these is a unicorn coin bank that I have.  I used this cookie cutter.  I piped and flooded the whole cookie white.  When dry, I covered the whole unicorn with pearl lust dust.   I piped some more white icing for the mane and covered it with white sanding sugar.  I piped a black dot for the eye and added a tiny dot of white.  The rest of the face was draw on with food coloring marker.

For the smaller helicopters I used the cutter from this set.  I hand-cut the larger helicopters, but this a very similar cutter.  I would recommend using chilled dough for cutting these out.  The rotor blades are delicate and when the dough is warm, the cookie beaks apart.  I had to piece many of the smaller helicopters back together.  The smaller cutter left an impression in the cookie and that is what I followed to decorate the cookie.  For the larger cookie, I first drew on the blades and window section with food coloring marker.  I iced the cookie yellow and allowed it to dry.  I came back and piped and flooded the window.  While the blue icing was still wet, I added the white highlight line to the blue. Then with grey icing, I piped over the blades and I drew on and added the skids on the bottom.  I also added a small grey "x" on the back of the tail.  The final touches were adding some start sprinkles to the blades and tail, and adding "Gus" to the helicopter body,
