This past weekend I was asked to make some baby shower cookies.  Bunting is a very popular design element these days, I see them everywhere.  I've always wanted to make some pretty little baby cookies like the ones I see all over Instagram and Pinterest. 

I used this cutter to make the bunting cookies.  Start off by piping and flooding the cookie white or whatever background color you desire.  Once the background is dry, I piped a brown curved line from one side of the cookie to the other.  I cut an isosceles triangle out of paper to use it as a template for making the buntings.

I placed the template on the cookie and traced it with a pink food coloring marker.  I traced the two outer triangles first, then the two middle ones so there weren't any odd gaps.  Then I piped over the tracing with different shades of pink and brown.  

To get the word "baby" on the bunting and achieve the antiqued look, these are the supplies that you will need.

1. A palette for holding food coloring. I used black to stamp the letters and ivory for antiquing.

2. Damp wash cloth.

3. Mini alphabet stamps ( Mine are from the dollar section at Jo-Anns)

4. Sponge

5. Small dish of water

6. Fine tip paintbrush

7. Iced bunting cookies

8. A sheet of scrap paper to practice stamping on.

I never clean my palette, unless my husband mistakenly cleans it off out of kindness.  I start off by adding a few drops of water to the black food coloring.  You want it to be thin enough to paint with, but still thick enough that it's not going to bleed.  I used my paint brush to paint the food coloring on the stamp.  I don't dip it in because too much food coloring gets on the stamp and the letter turns outs as a big black blob.  Stamp a few on a piece of paper to make sure you have the food coloring consistency right, and you know how much pressure to use.  Then stamp directly onto the cookie.  Once you've stamped the letter, if it's not perfect, touch it up with the paintbrush.

For the antiquing, I added a few drops of water to some ivory food coloring,  I took the sponge and dipped it in the food coloring.  I sponged all over the area above the bunting and along the right side of each pendant.  I smoothed out any unevenness with the paintbrush and water. 

For the sweet baby cookies, I used this cutter.  I piped and flooded the cookies with light pink. When dry, I airbrushed a chevron pattern on with this stencil (it's difficult to see in this picture).  For the heart, I piped and flooded the cookies and while still wet, I added polka dots in a contrasting color.   For the roses, I've made a video on how I made them.  I'm still learning how to edit videos so I hope to have it completed in a few days.
