I made these cookies for my niece's birthday at the beginning of the month. I first heard about Daniel Tiger a few years ago when a friend told me about it. I watched Mr. Roger's Neighborhood all the time when I was a kid. I think it's cool how they have created a new show for today's kids from a show their parents watched. My favorite character/puppet on Mr. Roger's Neighborhood was X the Owl. As a kid I felt X the Owl was cheerful and loved to learn new things. He always had trouble making decisions, a problem I still have today.
When I researched photos of Daniel Tiger, they all looked as if he was painted with watercolors. I deiced to try it and paint him. I used this cutter for Daniel's face. I iced the cookie with white icing and allowed it to dry overnight. The next day I painted the face. I used orange, brown, and ivory food coloring. I outlined the eyes with black paint, but created the pupil using black icing. The mouth, nose and whiskers were also created with icing. The number three cutter can be found here. I used primary colors and placed wet-on-wet dots in a contrasting color.
I hope my niece enjoyed the cookies!
