The Fourth has come and gone. I have a few more cookies to share with you that I made to celebrate America's birthday. Uncle Sam came from here. I use kraft card-stock when I'm making a template. It's a good thickness and holds up well. I taped the hat and face parts together to create the shape I would cute out. If I'm going to make a ton (more than a dozen) of the shape, I will use packaging tape to kind of laminate the shape. If you have a real laminator use that. After my shape was set I hand cut the cookies. Once the cookies had cooled I used a food coloring marker to divide the beard from the hat, and traced the semi-circle for the face. For the sections of the ha I eyeballed all the lines. I filled in all the red sections first. Once those sections were dry I filled in the white ones, followed by the beard. I allowed the cookie to dry over night seeing that the beard was such a large section. The next day I filled in the blue stripe on the hat and the flesh colored section of the face. When the face had dried I traced the mustache with food coloring marker and piped over it with white icing. The final touches were adding the eyes and the stars to the hat.
The other cookies that I made were four's with a flag motif. The number four cookie cutter is from here. I had purchased the cookie cutter hoping to use it for graduation cookies. I was happy when I was able to find another use for it. These cookies were pretty simple. I took a food coloring marker to section off the cookie, eyeballing it again. I piped and flooded the red sections first. Once the red was completely dry I filled in the white and blue area's. When the blue was finished drying I added the stars. I just free handed the stars.
